Meet up, new spot!

I am preparing the official poll for our new meet up spot, but tomorrow we are going to be chilling at Pizza Perfect off of 21st ave. Typical time 7-9. Exact address at 1602 21st Ave S Nashville, TN 37212.

Norm had a lot of good reasons to give this place a shot, and I think it’s a great idea.

Weather may be a bit rough, but either way come hang out, you never know what we will be talking about!

New year, new requests.

Well, it’s 2012, and at the last meet up we had a special request from @aries. For our next meet up we are going for a blast from the past! We will be meeting at CafĂ© Coco. To celebrate the special occasion – it’s buy your own beer for the first 100 scootnashville members that show up!

I’m also hard at work integrating a photo gallery for our events, and working on some initiatives to drum up more participation on the boards over here. The winter inevitably brings a slow down, but we gotta keep this going folks!

Our next Rust Run will be January 28th. It’s a Saturday like usual so make sure y’all get ready for ride of some sort. I’ll be posting some more details as we get closer to that day.

I’m also waiting on more responses for our board initiative. It won’t be a ton of work, but will be really rewarding. Shoot me an e-mail to board@scootnashville.com if you are interested at all! I’d like to have interested folks respond by 2/1/2012.

New look, new beginnings.

Y’all probably remember the old forum setup. It was annoying, not user friendly and a pain to use. I’ve been searching forever to make it easier but have it integrate with the rest of the software. I finally found a solution. It’s implemented today along with a new theme that’s a bit easier on the eyes.

As a small side effect, we have to start from scratch. It’s a positive change overall, and I for one am excited about it. I’m also interested in feedback. Please continue to pass it along, I will also be compiling our meetup spots into a poll, and we will be able to vote on it.

Also as we continue to grow we need to organize a bit more. I’d like to get some interest from the group into forming a board with the intention of forming a non profit club. This will help us get events planned faster, easier and ensure greater success in the future. As of now a 5 member board is what I would like to see. If you are interested in participating please e-mail board@scootnashville.com

Thanks again to everyone for all their participation and making this worthwhile. Y’all are awesome.

Last meet up of the year!

The weather just doesn’t like us does it? After a few solid days of raining it looks like its gonna keep up tonight.

Having said that, it’s a meetup night. 7 til 8 at turnip truck in the Gulch. It’s about time we start looking for some alternatives while the winter hours are in effect. Leave your suggestions in the comments!

Rust Run and Toys for Tots Rally.

Wow, this month has been busy, I called it December domination earlier, and it’s going to live up to it’s name.

The Rust Run will be the name of our monthly rides leaving from Antique Archaeology’s shop in the Marathon Motor works located at 1300 Clinton St. Mike Wolfe loves scooters, so do we. Fans of his show do too. It makes sense that we team up to maximize awareness in Nashville.

My morning ride will be really loose. It will be really cold but the weather will be good. I want to make sure everyone will be warm and comfortable. We will meet at 10:30 am to group up for a noon departure. Our times this ride are not as sharp as usual, but don’t be too late. A full gas tank is a necessity.

After leaving the meetup point we will ride to the Warner Park to ride around for an hour or two and break for lunch. After lunch we will ride out to a toy store or Target or Walmart to stock up on goodies to bring to Little Hamilton for the event. I will have my messenger bag, and rear rack and a spare backpack if someone wants to wear it. From there we will ride down Broadway straight down 4th avenue to the venue.

As I mentioned this will be a very loose ride, I don’t want anyone to freeze themselves out. If you have questions contact me directly.

The meetup is on.

Sorry about short notice and short blog but the meetup is on tonight at the turnip truck in the gulch to
7 til they close. It’s at 321 12th ave south. We will be running through the details of this weekends events come say hi!

Toys For Tots and Rust Run.

tft final poster

This Saturday kicks off our first Rust Run, these rides will start from Antique Archaeology over at Marathon Motorworks. We will meet up at 10:30am and hang out til 12:00pm, from there we will ride for a few hours, grab some lunch and get some last minute shopping in for the Toys For Tots rally. We will ride directly to the Little Hamilton Collective where Mike has set up a night full of giveaways and bands and a swap meet. this is something you can’t miss. even if you can’t make the ride, grab a new unwrapped toy and swing by the event Saturday night!

In Remembrance.

On November 29th we had a member lose her battle with cancer. Some of y’all never had the pleasure of meeting Tara but for those who did you know she fought. I often told her she was the strongest woman I knew and I wasn’t kidding.

Tara used scooters as a way to relax from the stress and pain of chemo. Her bike was her only transportation. It carried as much personality as she did. She had stickers all over it letting us know that she stopped for The Contributor and that when her helmet came off, her hair would have some extra styling.

There was a solid winter when scootnashville was relaunching that she and Tonya showed up to every meetup, and Tara rode to every one of those that she was physically able to.

She was always smiling. No matter what. Tara will be missed, but she touched so many lives that she lives on.

Her memorial is this Saturday December 10th at 2pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church. If anyone is interested in attending please contact me. We will be gathering at Graham’s house to ride together. Dress will be casual because that’s the kinda gal Tara is. She is also asking for donations to be made for ovarian cancer research instead of flowers.

Stay tuned for an annual benefit ride honoring Tara and to raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer.

Wow. I wasn’t kidding when I called it december domination. It may be the winter months but if we keep going like this there will be no shortage of scootery in Nashville.

For those that missed the parade it was an awesome event. Richard and his wife showed some amazing hospitality beforehand with a staging area and some drinks. We got test our slow race skills and probably ensured some cheerleaders will never take up two stroke bikes. All in all everyone loved the bikes, except that one Harley guy that Tammy tried to win over.

I’ve had some open lines with the folks over at Antique Archaeology as I have previously mentioned, we will begin a ride from there building once a month that will be called the Rust Run. The winter months will likely have a shorter ride for us. It’s a good place for us to meet up, and talk to people who haven’t seen scooters up close. The first will be on 12/17/2011. It will coincide with the Toys for Tots rally that Mike Hester has been busting his butt to organize.

Im working out my details for the ride over to saturdays events, but for now plan to come to the Rust Run with a new unwrapped toy, we will ride for an hour or two then head over to the event.

Finally, tomorrow is a meet up day – Turnip Truck in the Gulch from 7 til whenever. I will not be able to attend. There is another scootnashville happening this weekend I will post about Wednesday for anyone interested. Until then ride safe, and sound off in the comments about any concerns.

Ride safe!
