1/22/2012 Ride(s)

I’ll be leading the West Side’s Best Ride on Sunday, 1/22/2012. Again, this is an advanced ride, 125cc+ bikes only, please.

Meet at Thorntons, 7102 Charlotte Ave, 37209 any time before the ride starts at 11 a.m. I should be there by 10:30, and at 11:00, I will go over some of the hand signals and whatnot for anyone who has not ridden with us in the past. As soon as my spiel is over, we ride, so don’t dawdle!

After the ride, @scootervic is planning a 50cc-friendly ride through Percy Warner Park, which is also a challenging ride (don’t let the low speeds fool ya).

Hope to see ya!

Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Ride

Click map image to go to Google Maps versionHey, check out our new digs! Thanks, Ross!

So, anyway… a few of us have already talked about a New Year’s Eve ride, since the weather’s going to be really nice this weekend. This one is an advanced ride, with lots of curves and hills, and speeds exceeding 50mph, so please, 125cc+ bikes, only. Here’s the plan:

Meet up at Thorntons (7102 Charlotte Pike, 37209) anytime after noon on Saturday, and be ready to roll out at 1:00 p.m., sharp. There’s 90 minutes of riding, and with three stops, add about 45 minutes. My goal is to get everyone home before dark, so we’re rolling at 1:00!  I will get to Thorntons around 12:30, to go over some stuff and hang out to chat.

If you click the image above, it will take you to Google Maps, outlining the route and the stops. If  you’re concerned about whether your riding chops are up to it — and believe me, I think everyone I’ve ridden with before can handle this one! — you can check out video clips I’ve taken of some of the more challenging parts (1, 2, 3) to get an idea of how this ride goes. There are numerous gravel driveways emptying onto the route, so watching for loose gravel and sticks, etc., is a must. That said, this ride’s a blast, and I’ll be signalling for road hazards and not ripping around curves at daredevil speeds. We’ll also pull off if anyone falls behind, so ride your ride, and don’t worry about keeping up.

If you have questions, shoot me a message here; everything else will be covered at Thorntons around 12:30, Saturday. Hope to see you there!

UPDATE: @aries is asking if folks might want to also/alternately do a shorter, in-town ride on 12/31 — so please check out her comments and provide your input!  Nothing wrong with having two rides on the same day!

Christmas Parade Plans.

The time is nearing for the Christmas parade and our plan is finalized.

December 4th meet at the Centennial Park pond area just across from the Parthenon at 2:00 pm. Kickstands up at 2:30pm SHARP no exceptions. We will ride to Richards house as a group. He will have some beverages and help discuss the staging. From there we will ride out to the parade.

If you have anyone that wants to view the parade feel free to invite them, we could use some photos.

The registration fee has been handled by Richard and I can’t thank him enough for his hospitality with this. If you have any questions contact me or click this link for more details. Hope to see you Sunday!

As many of you know Antique Archaeology is in town and was started by a huge scooter and motorcycle fan. We’ve been working together together to get a ride launched from their building. Saturday 10/29/2011 will be our next official group ride meeting at the Antique Archaeology shop in the marathon village at 10:30 am to browse the shop and kickstands up at 12:00 pm. We will be riding and stopping for lunch along the way.

The route is still being finalized but it will most likely be recommended for 125cc and up. Stay tuned for the route and plan and if you have questions please let me know.

Update and apology.

Folks it’s Tuesday and that’s meetup time. We will be gathering at the turnip truck in the gulch starting at 7.

I’ve also got a bit of an apology – this last month or so has been really hectic for me and I’m sorry that updates have been sparse. I’ll be getting a lot of stuff sorted out and a solid ride is being planned for the 29th.

The winter is always interesting. Most folks slow down. I’m hoping we speed up. Stay tuned folks.

Meetup reminder!

Ride report!

It was a jam packed weekend full of scootery!

Sundays ride was awesome and an adventure to say the least and I can’t thank everyone enough for their patience with all our hiccups on that ride from our delayed start, the seperation, the split group and even our breakdown. All in all the ride was a success and I’m feeling fantastic about leading the ride on 6/11 I’ve been scouting and am nailing down the route so I know what to expect and so you will to.

Speaking of the scouting I went on a run that was about 70 miles on Monday afternoon. Parts of it were really twisty and were shown to me by a super awesome guy named Nick who runs old 2t motorcycles. I think that run may be too much for Saturdays ride but we will be doing it soon for the more advanced crowd.

I will be going out again this Sunday to finalize the route would welcome a few ridind buddies, if you’re interested shoot me a message here and we will coordinate a departure time.
